Hi i just thought i would post this to maybe inspire some peep to do the same. Basically its a spent Launcher that has been converted to propane to fire nerf missles. At the moment it shoots roughly 200 feet at an arch. We are working out a propulsion system for our own munitions that will blow flour and bb's out on impact.

Basically this thing can be filled with propane, taken on field collaped, expand when ready to fire, and use the actual fire button to launch (the one that you really fire it with in real life). It is all self contained, no external sources of air or propane are needed.

it uses no pyrotechnics.

Anyways here are some pics
collapsed (we put a red tip so we don't get in trouble with the locals)

here is the internal firing mechanism from back to show where it is filled and stuff

Here is the valve that releases the gas.

here is an overview of internal firing mechanism with nerf rocket.

In all the pics of the launcher the firing mechanism was inside. We took special care so it wasn't visible to maximize realism.

It still needs a little tweaking. The valve needs lots of lubrication, once after every shot. Also the saftey we built is flakey (I got shot point blank it the back when my day was loadin it one day and it hurt like hell).

The launcher was bought at a flee market for 45 dollars. Pretty good deal i think.

Anyways if there is anyone trying to make something similar and needs some advice. let me know.

deffinetly beats my cannon. I really want to get a launcher like that. Mine i just used an air chamber with a ball valve all inside 3 inch PVC so it looks real.

But you deffinetly got me beat. Id be inturested in how you designed the fireing mechanism and everything. Looks like a cool design

The real firing mechanism to fire real munitions has a spring loaded rod that comes back and strikes some sort of primer, i just had it instead come back and hit a release that holds the spring loaded ball valve closed. The ball valve is on the end of a chamber that is for filling with propane, it also has a fill valve from a gbb pistol. As far as how we came up with it all, it was trial and error. We had many good ideas, but no tools to make them a reality so instead we just wandered around the hardware store and bought potential parts. Really the main hard part was getting the plastic ball valve to spring open with those springs you see in one of the pics above. Its hard in a limited area to get any kind of torque on that thing.

If i get time today maybe i will post more detailed pics and explanation of the firing mechanism and stuff. Oh and if anyone knows of a good free place to upload videos, maybe I will upload one that shows how to use this launcher and how it shoots.

45 bucks is a steal - if you find another in good condition, grab it..people sell them for $100+ easily.

any way you could switch out the propane fill with a bike pump up?
stupid question, maybe. I'm not to good with air pressure or pneumatics. Would that give it enough force?

its possible, prolly not hard to do, the whole internal mechanism would need to be changed out for something else, but its workable. The reason we made it propane though was because I run propane already on all my ggb's, sniper rifle, and all my dad's gbb's as well. It was just easier for us. I am sure you could get enough pressure, and store it in there easy enough, the hard part is releasing it in a realistic fashion using the launchers built in firing mechanism.

As of today my dad and I are brain storming a new internal mechanism. The one we have now works but malfunctions every now and again. Also i would like more velocity out of it so i don't have to arch the shots as much. What we are working on now is a resovoir of gas in the missle that sprays that gas out for thrust. We were thinking of using co2 cartriges and just piercing them and using that for thrust, but those aren't reusable and can get expensive. I am planning on designing a missle at school for this thing that is totally nonlethal and such but that has lift and has a much flatter trajectory. I am studying to be an aerospace engineer, so i have access to a lot of software to calculate dag and lift of stuff. If that doesn't pan out, we will stick with what we already made.

Oh, i forgot my firewire cable for my camera at school, so i will try if i have time next weekend to post a video, Thanks for those links UnHipJuffoWupp

"The launcher was bought at a flee market for 45 dollars. Pretty good deal i think."
yes it is... but your purchage need some work to keep it from becoming very colsty..
you have bought a intact rocket launcher...few problems here
first they are against the LAW..the BATF considers them a LIVE launcher..
normmal dillmill is a few holes in the tube, sometimes revoval of the rear site is also needed(AT4)
"[T]he term ‘destructive device’ means . . . (2) any type of weapon
by whatever name known which will, or which may
be readily converted to, expel a projectile by the action of an
explosive or other propellant, the barrel or barrels of which have a
bore of more than one-half inch in diameter, except a shotgun or
shotgun shell which the Secretary finds is generally recognized as
particularly suitable for sporting purposes;"
issue being is that "if" some one had "ammo" for the LAW. it takes 2 minunits with a screw driver to reload it.. BATF has held that to be" readily converted to"
I would contact BATF and ask for DEWAT standards for the LAW
btw..nice work on the inturnals

This one is demilled. There is no easy way to make this launcher use real munitions.

btw, read what you wrote, there is like 40 spelling mistakes in it :)
