The UTG will have the most as far as full spectrum goes because I will have to use the third one as well since my second one seems to not like being modded into an SD. By the time it's data gets locked it will represent 4 different guns. Thanks
Hey, how about adding this to your Guide Originally posted by justsomeguy http://www.cimmerians.org/FPS_Converter.html It's not very accurate, since it's a broad spectrum, but i'm sure the makers know how to do it.

The TM Boys Gearbox and the M83 get almost the same FPS...
It's an LPEG. Not nearly near the quality of an AEG. There are no upgrade parts made specifically for them. |

| m4 freedom fighter usp spring streached a little "just a tad." polished barrel piston head mod min 216 max 220 out of 30 shots of ksc .12's about 2000 rounds on the gun with the spring and the gears are fine. |

| How did you mod your piston head? I did all sorts of evil things to my M83, which was really, really weak-ish and is now tearing up stuff it used to bounce off. Regrettfully i have no means of measuring power except the ouch test and thats not to accurate:-( |

Actually I just used a bigger O-ring and added a 4mm spacer. The piston head already has been ported. After the O-ring change it was not letting any air out except through the Nozzle. I could only compress the piston 1/4 of the way down instead of the previous 1/2 or on some all the way. I was thinking of making the nozzle hole smaller to increase the air pressure but haven't figured a way to get than done effeciently without melting the nozzle with a lighter. It would be too hard to control the amount of heat applicable and to control the plastic deformity without changing the necessary size measurements since the nozzle has to to be an exact length. |

You could always try hunting for a piece of plastic tube with the right inner/outer diameter, Around here we do a lot of jury-rigging like that:-) I always hated calculating pressures and volumes but you sure thats a good idea? I read somewhere on a forum about someone planning on increasing the nozzle diameter to get more air volume behind the BB in a shorter period of time... |

| Asked my expert on everything mechanical about the possible results of decreasing the nozzle diameter. He started spouting things like the Gay-Lussac law and the less applicable Boyle-Marriot law and i started to lose focus. He finally admitted that there are calculations involved that may be meaningless, since the LPEGs arent a really closed system. When pressured he gave me his gut reaction as that unless the nozzle diameter is allready at minimal value, a slight reduction would probably prove benefictial, since the lower pressure but higher speed airflow may stabilize the bbs acceleration. Need to think about this a little more... |

Gulo, I haven't the foggiest idea how to even measure the PSI of the air being pushed other than to rig a bicycle tire pump with a pressure gauge to the nozzle. Even then the volume of air being pushed is probably too small to register on one of these. Isn't tearing every variable affecting BOYs gearbox performance fun? |

Yes it is, isn't it? Actually, about tearing boys gboxes apart, I've found that the cyma gboxes, at least the ones in the mp5 and the ak are different from gboxes in DE guns like the m4. The cylinder is slightly (about 1 mm) wider and the halves of the box are asymetrical. So is the nozzle mounting. Not a good thing at all since this makes them less interchangeable. is this universal or is this again something specific for stuff imported to the EU |

I said something about the slight differences in some other thread but forgot which one. You also have to be aware that there are also nozzle depth differences. You can chop a longer nozzle to fit the hop up chamber of a shorter one but you can't the other way around. Also the AK gearboxes are somewhat proprietary since they have a nub/bump for the trigger mechanism to "hook" into. Simple drop ins for them are not as easy as some of the other BOYs type gearboxed guns. |

| I seem to have missed out on the bump part since because of the difference in nozzle positioning I did not try to "drop in" as a whole, just cannibalize the innards. As things are going I dont thing that the original LPEGs are going to be around much longer, which is a pity since i tear into cheapo stuff with much more abandon than into stuff over the 100usd mark. |

They are certainly becoming more niche guns but they also still make great shooting replicas with a paint job and some hole filling. They just don't make great playing guns if you're into power. I personally think they are better for indoor work since they will not do the kind of damage AEG do to walls, furniture, pets, and bodily parts from richochets. I still have fun with them though I'm more disappointed by their power compared to the new generation of MPEGs. |

| MPEG?? Is that medium powered electric gun? When did this anagram show up? I like it. And where exactly does it fit into the scheme of AEG vs. LPEG. I assume this new phrase refers to LPEG's with power around 250. Am I correct? |

Actually anything over and around 200 stock. That's just my own personal terminology for the non-Boys/Mini gearboxed LPEGs that have power on the cusp of AEGs. What do you think of the glossary? Any terms you think is missing?
JSG, Gulo, DDG, RLB, Tedtay, MIG, what about you guys. What terms should be there that isn't?

Bignaz, please post a pic of five of the chronoes for each and I will post your results (the XM8 has a 9.6 battery due to the number of cells). I cannot yet verify the .2s for the AK but your XM8 figures look right. |

Well, I made the mistake of coining a term that used power as a specificiation. It was a bad idea since, theoretically, if you upgraded your gun enough, it could switch categories.
I think it's just best to stick with LPEG. I'd change it, but everyone already knows what it is. |

ok, two things... you can now buy parts for be tech guns... which lblurs the line a bit mroe between lpegs and aeg's... they aren't listed as for the be techs, but if you will notice, now parts are being listed as either for tm, or they are listed as for tm v3 compatable... kind of odd, since the be's are all v3 gearboxes, and allmost all aeg's share the same gearboxes, so does it seem like be's are being sold as being tm v3 compatible and parts are being sold that way now as well?
2nd thing.. JSG, you coined a great term. and i would like to suggest that another term you have coined be used to stop the line from being blurred further. "PDM's", or plastic death machines... it refers to any lpegs that are built to the point of performing as well as or better than facotry aeg's... and the "plastic" part refers to the fact that it comes with mostly plastic internalt, the fact that they never have metal external bits from the factory, and the fact that spit .20 gram 6mm plastic balls o' death.
so i suggest PDM as an acronym for the guns on the lpeg side of the line that blur said line too much. if it starts life as a lpeg, and gets upgraded into the blurry area, its a pdm.
gets rid of the blur, and gives us tinkerers a goal and bragging rights...
jsg, you are too good a wordsmith for your own good :P |

| Isn't it true that it will damage some guns if you don't use .2? Or will it not? |

There have been many discussions on that subject. Just search for the topic since I don't remember it. My take is that no on higher powered guns but there might be some problems with Boys type Gearboxes not able to push the BB out before the firing cycle starts again due to their inherently weak power. So far it seems inconclusive with some respectable and mechanically inclined individuals agreeing that the main problem with shooting .12s out of higher powered guns is bad only due to the less stringent QC of the cheaper BBs having a sprue nipple still attached as well as unground seams. Most .20s, even the cheaper brands are much more evenly ground and you will hardlysee the nipple or seams in .20s. There are plenty of regurgitators who will tell you otherwise because they heard somewhere that it is. If you do use .12s make sure you buy the better ones and check a sample for seams which can be seen under a magnifying glass and felt. The truly seamless one have given me no problems whatsoever. The ones I use for AEGs are the KSC perfect .12s. |

Check out the links to the replacement parts. Most likely to the Laroys airsoft link or the Blowgun link. |
