ok a while back, in science, we were launching off water propelled rockets. now i thought, if u put some BB's in to rocket, when it takes off, it might drop the BB's all over the place. now the reason i said "might" is because i havnt done this.
how it works is: the rocket(a 20 liter soda bottle half filled with water) is hooked up to a stand that attatches the end of a bike pump to the drinikin end. then u pump the bike pump creating pressure inside the bottle. then, you pull a string that releases the rocket and BLAM! your rocket flys away. the only bad thing about this is that it only drops the BB's, so your FPS will be low. also, your enemy will get slightly wet. not super wet tho, because the water comes out kinda in a mist

Um... mortars don't drop shrapnel from the sky, they blow it all over the place when they hit the ground. Also one thing I don't think you understand is that if you're doing it like the real thing (two guys crouching right next to it), it's more likely that the wielders of this doomsday machine will get hit than their target (like the Nazis' attempt at a jet fighter).
The water rocket thing would probably be a good alternative to pyro as far as shooting a mortar into the air though.
20 liter soda bottle?!!! Dang, that's one helluva fat boy! (anyway I think you mean 2L) |

| okay, ya, a mortar doesnt fly, it is more like a stationary rocket launcher that launches a ton of bb's, i made one not oo long ago, and still use it often, i made awhole thread about it if u wanna try to find it |

Ok the bike bump is the actual mortor. The pop bottle is the ammunition if you will. How to post pictures: 1.Piant it! 2.Do save as in that window it says bit map and other stuff like that click jpeg all the ones with the js. 3.Cick save as jpeg and all the other js. 4.Go to photobucket create an account if you haven't already. 5.Brose images click the one you painted and click upload. 6.Once it's done uploading get the link one with these <> copy and paste here. But looks like a cool mortor how high will it go approximently?Cool idea and thanks!

| height depends on how much water and pressure u load the rocket with |

| I.M.O. mortars are a waste of money and B.B.'s 9no offense, it is a descent design) because you are better off just shooting at them than having to use the math and the proper angles to hit your target. |

| inventing things are fun, which is why i think everyone posts on this forum. I can't say that this is going to work for him, but he can try to make a rocket launcher if he wants |

I remember seeing a video of something these guys made. It was just a tube with a firing pin in the middle. It was a 40mm tube, made to fire mosquito molds BB showers. Whenever a BB shower was dropped into the tube, it would detonate on the firing pin and: fire a shower of BB's on the trajectory of the tube. I'm not sure what kind of range you get from that, but, it sure looked cool.
Also, they rigged a door at the bottom that they could open to reteive the spent shells. |

People said it seemed kind of hard to make.... Couldn't you just get some pvc and something to hit the button? The door might be hard.
And about this idea, I already though of it =]. The thing is, it wouldn't be effectice in the game. It would just be fun.
I actually have an electric pumper and a portable power source. You can use these things just for show or for big events. I think it's been done before, though.
Errr, you don't need a firing pin either. To make this easier, you simply put a cork in the bottleneck, and shove the pin through it. Once the pressure builds up enough, it will pop by it'self. Though the timing won't be precise, you can still time how long it takes to blow. Plus, it will probably only be used as a prop, right? |

Im making one too ill post my mortar when its finished but I have to warn you it will be bad ass.
im using a nitrous valve a co2 tank(not a 12g powerlet) an expansion chamber and a heavy duty one inch ball valve. it will be able to shoot between fifty meters all the way up to about four hundred meters depending on the pressure i allow in the expansion chamber
it is a little costly but it will be amazingly impressiveand very accurate because the object im shooting will have a plastic sabot. it will probably cost around $120 plus about $1.50 -$3.00 per round depending on what i use |
