Hello I want to polish my KJW G23 slide to make it look cooler, but I wasn't sure if I there is any steps or precautions that i have to take before I start. I was also woundering how to deoxidize my outer barrel, if it is required. Help is much appreciated
edit: i changed your topic title to make it more descriptive.

Start with a thicker grit and work your way down. 600 wet or 1200 (for cars) should be the lightest grit. Start out with something modest at first, don't just go and belt sand it with 32 grit or you'll have nothing left.

maybe--maybe not--it depends on the type of metal used on the slide.
for finishing i recommend at least 800 grit if not 1000 grit. |

as for 'deoxidizing' your OB. use 'tarn x' or something like that(stuff you use to polish metal). just look in the cleaning aisle at the grocery store.

yes, because otherwise you are leaving metal exposed to air, it will rust.

But it isn't steel, so having it exposed to air doesn't do much. Paint stripper also might not do it. 600 grit will also work fine for a nice finish on the slide. The more you use any piece of sandpaper, the less effect it will have; thus 600 grit can polish something quite easily. I used 600 to lap my heatsink for my computer and it came out with a mirror finish after a little work. If you want it really polished, just pick up some Mother's polish (or magnum polish, Mother's is just a really well-known brand) which can be had at any local auto parts store.
