Feigned Withdrawal |

| The objective
of this maneuver is to use the feigned withdrawal to sucker
the opponent (blue) into committing its force after the
staged retreat, then encircle blue and bring victory to red.
This maneuver was made famous by Hannibal Barca when
fighting the Roman Legions at Canne, 216 BCE. Later in Desert Storm
the strategy used was claimed to be used do to Hannibal's success
against the Romans at Canne. Timing
and discipline are essential for red's force to make this maneuver
successful. X stands for front line forces, reserves have
been grouped with these forces to simplify the diagrams.

Phase One: The attacking team
(red) will attack blue's center and stage a withdrawal. Blue
will then begin to funnel down in chase of the fleeing
force. Red's feigned withdrawal force will then turn and
hold blue. Red's flanks will then wrap around blues flanks
and surround them. Blue will then be completely
encircled.

Phase Two: From this point on
its only a matter of time before blue falls. Red
victory. |
